It's not only what you say, but who is listening as you say it

It already started, but it will last still a marathon-like 24 hours non-stop, in which you can listen to a live broadcast from Rostock, by neuroTransmitter (New York based Valerie Tevere and Angel Nevarez) and Tirdad
Zolghadr, and Anton Vidokle. You can access the G8:24HRS here.

It's not only what you say but who is listening as you say it,

is this project’s motto, one inspiring in the way it puts emphasis back on the listener, gives power back to the subject, in this case, the one who constitutes an audience. After all, what emerges in Heiligendamm these days has in its core a lot to do with individual power and what do we do with the information we are fed with.

On a first phase, they invited artists through a large international mailing list, to contribute with audio material, lectures, music, voice experiments, or readings that considered the grammar of the G8 as a point of departure. The result of that is NOW being broadcasted: different pieces of audio such as music chosen for this occasion (not without a twist of humor, with titles like “Don’t Fence Me In” or “Pimp my Politics”), live interviews, specially recorded interviews, and sound experiments taken in a broader sense.
For instance, interviewer Carrey Young will share her conversation with German photographer Immo Klink.

In this mixture of expressions, these two artists aim to highlight and grow awareness on their central question: what can the artistic community offer the community of political activists?

Increasingly, it is getting hard to draw boundaries between an activist and an artist, or, as Angel Nevarez puts it: “Nowadays, artists become activists and activists become artists. It all gets very blurred.” And the best example of that is the creativity campaigners and protestants are using to achieve high impact non-violent means of demonstration.

G8:24HRS was organized by Tirdad Zolghadr, Anton Vidokle, and neuroTransmitter [Valerie Tevere + Angel Nevarez] in collaboration with kein.tv and unitednationsplaza, within the Art Goes Heiligendamm project.
